So, I haven't blogged in forever and I have so much to show and will be coming soon, but I shot my sister's "belly" this weekend when I went to VA for her baby shower and had to post just a few for now because I am so excited for her and her new baby boy Parker who should be arriving in mid-December. I promise to make some updates soon for those of you checking in, it has been super busy for me, from multiple weddings, little ones and babies and of course some doggies!! I was honored to photograph Mike and Mary's wedding on June 20, 2009 at the Maggie Valley Country Club. It was a very hot, bright and sunny day, but the wedding was beautiful and Mary has been so sweet to work with! I remember her bouquet of white roses was so huge, bigger around than her waist! She looked stunning! The reception was full of kids + lots of dancing and they all got to use the "bubble guns" as the couple exited. I really enjoyed time with Katie and Andrew for their engagement session, actually even before the session when they took me out to lunch. We then went to The Princess Anne Hotel in Asheville, where they will get married later this year. They were such a wonderful and easy going couple to work with and made my job so easy. They are so sweet together and I am looking forward to their wedding.

Ryan and Cortney came to Asheville from Tennessee to get married at Homewood. They have been together since 7th grade so they were ready to make it official! I was so happy that they asked me to be their photographer. On the way to the wedding it was pouring and by the time everyone was ready for some photos, we lucked out and it had stopped raining for the day. Cortney and Ryan were into some creative photo ops and even had some ideas of their own, so we had lots of fun throughout the day! The reception was so much fun, lots of dancing and great music! For their exit, they ran through a lot of bubbles and when they got closer to me, he dipped and kissed her amongst all the bubbles and their friends, it was great! Jennifer and Eric were married June 13, 2009 at The Crest Center in Asheville. It was a beautiful, very sunny day and they exchanged vows under the Gazebo overlooking downtown Asheville. The wedding was so much fun and her family (the Jackson family) was so entertaining, especially on the dance floor and I had a blast working with the wedding party during sunset overlooking the mountains. I have the pleasure of also photographing her sister's wedding in July of this year and in April 2010, I will get to photograph her brother's wedding, so I am very happy to get to work with their family for a 3 weddings! I would also like to thank my second shooter Giedre for her assistance and who will be assisting all 3 weddings with me.

Thanks to Eric and Jennifer for having me photograph their wedding, it was certainly a pleasure and I look forward to working with the Jackson family again!

My Family Trip, August 09

Okay, so I haven't blogged in a while, I have had a busy summer, so I will certainly post some shoots and weddings in the upcoming days/weeks. In the mean time, here are some photos from my recent family trip. First, my Mom, sister and 3 nieces came to visit my studio and we goofed around and got some fun and sweet shots and from Asheville went to Charlotte where I got to go to Carowinds with my older niece Kyrsten (and totally got sunburned) and her and I also got to see Coldplay in Concert that evening (it was an awesome show) and from there went to Hilton Head Beach with the whole fam. Of course with my family, there had to be some drame, but overall, had lots of fun, did some casual family beach pictures and had a fun time at the Westin, we had lots of food and a DJ... good times!

Avery's Bridal

Josh and Kimberly were married on May 30, 2009 at The Farm Party Barn in Candler, NC.

I really like the venue and have shot here several times, from the indoor barn, to the gazebo, and the horses are always a favorite among guests. It was a beautiful, but hot day! All of the arrangements and details were beautifully done, including lots of flowers from Kaylynne's Newbridge Florist. Congratulations Kimberly and Josh, you were so wonderful to work with and I was glad to be a part of your day!

What a pleasure it was to photograph John and Kim's wedding June 6, 2009... They were married at Lake Junaluska and it was a picture perfect day! Mother of the bride, Vikki took care of most of the details and everything looked so fantastic. From the moment Kim and her father arrived by horse and carriage, her and John were in awe of each other. Special moments included Kim giving the promise ring back to her father before he gave her away, and Kim and John had written there own vows, beautiful and very heart felt and after they were married, I got to ride with them in the horse and carriage and the photos I got I will never forget, the excitement was unreal and you could feel how much they loved and admired each other. We took some family and wedding party pictures and then I spent some time with the couple, first on the bridge overlooking the lake where they had their first kiss when they were dating and as we walked down the rose walk, I was snapping candids of them. The reception was lots of fun, beautifully decorated and outside was the cake cutting and toasts and for their exit, they ran through sparklers and sailed away. It was so romantic and storylike. I was honored to take part in their day and I also want to thank my second shooter Giedre for her assistance!

Nick and Rebekah were married May 23, 2009 at Living Savior Lutheran in Asheville. What a sweet couple they were and the ceremony was beautiful. They were taken by Limousine to their reception at Orchard at Broadmoor in Fletcher. I had the pleasure of photographing Cathey and Austin's wedding... well, it was more of a reception since they actually married in April in Jamaica. It was a beautiful backyard wedding at her parents home in Waynesville. Since they were married in Jamaica, they had a "beach" theme for their decorations and table settings. Their was a chance of rain, so I was hoping for no rain and as soon as we were done with the short vow ceremony and the family photos, we went to the tented area for the reception, immediately it started POURING and LIGHTING! They had a bluegrass band and grilled out... fun times!

Well, it's certainly that time of the year when it will be a rarity for me to have time off. Wedding season is here and now with the warm weather, I will have other sessions booked throughout the week as well. The weather was so beautiful!

Thanks to Jennifer, Adam, Dylan and little Riley for driving all the way into Asheville from Saluda for a photo session. We went to Botanical Gardens and stayed for about an hour or so and had a great time. Spring is finally here! Riley got to pick dandelions and go down by the creek and she wanted to test the water, so she would only take off one shoe to do it, it was adorable. I was a Senior at Reynolds High School and remember hearing an announcement on the PA regarding what had happened... it was also this day, 10 years ago when I met Nick... what a day to meet your husband to be! Easter Sunday

I took some photos of Reese and Tyson hunting for Easter eggs and they had lots of fun. Before they began hunting for eggs, Micah (the mom) took a piece of chocolate from Tyson's basket, and it was as if she took his only piece of candy... it was so dramatic and funny! I just got back in from my Atlanta trip... I went to see my sister and I was also there for a pet photo session with 3 dogs, one a pug puppy, super adorbable... Little Buddy and 2 pekingnese... Gizmo and Winston! It was lots of fun and exhausting! They had so much energy!!

My New Camera Bag and Lens!!

Just ordered a new 50mm prime lens 1.4 and very excited to get it in. I was also searching for a new camera bag, in particular, for weddings... to carry lenses, my battery pack, AA batteries, memory cards etc... the bag I'm using now is kind of bulky and by the end of the wedding, my shoulder aches from all the weight, so I really need a bag that can carry everything and be comfortable/stylish at the same time. Hailey's Bridal Session

Hailey came in for her bridal session on St. Patrick's Day... we went to Botanical Gardens and while we were there, we noticed some floral arrangements in the Gazebo and decided to use it and then we saw a limo pull in and we decided to head back to my studio and as we were leaving, a wedding started to take place out of nowhere... we were pretty surprised! Anyway, Maestro, Hailey's dog joined the studio session and did very well! I will upload more photos of her after the June wedding... keep posted!

A Few Days Of Inspiration...

In the past few days, I have been able to see and hear speak 2 very well known photographers in the field... one, a baby/child photographer Sandy "Sam" Puc who is on her "Tots to Teens" Tour... I went to Charlotte for the seminar. Among many things to learn when photographing children, she demonstrated with live models and how she interacts with very young children and it was nothing short of amazing! It was incredible and I learned some new techniques and certainly hope to make it fun for the children I am able to photograph in the future!

The other, a very well known and brilliant photographer Denis Reggie from Atlanta who came to Asheville to speak to a group of local wedding photographers at Regina Holder's studio. It was incredibly inspiring and after he was done speaking, It made me think about myself differently in the wedding business, in a positive way and I was so glad that I got to hear him speak and see his amazing work!

Melissa and Doug were married during a candlelight ceremony at Glenwood Baptist Church on February 21, 2009 in Marion, NC and it was a pleasure to photograph their wedding! It was a beautiful wedding, all of the flower arrangements and table decor amongst other details. My favorite part of the wedding was when the groom had his 2 young sons join him and Melissa during the lighting the unity candle, so there were 4 candles insteadof 2. It was a sweet moment! I was glad to be a part of their special day!

Co-Hosted by Blaze-N-Skyy Pet Boutique and Wellness Center and Spellbound Children's Bookshop, this event will feature the opportunity for kids to practice reading with certified therapy dogs. Children will read to a therapy dog for a period of 20 minutes. Volunteers will assist children as necessary. Kids may bring their own books or one will be selected by the volunteer. Thanks to Melissa for having me come out to her property to take some photos of her 2 horses. I went in the fenced area with her and the horses and she was feeding them constantly to keep their attention, but every now and then they curious of me and my camera and would tower over me as I was taking their photo... I got a little nervous a few times, but they were sweet horses, plus I grew up riding horses and I enjoy being around them, so I really had fun overall and I got to feed them some carrots too!

I went to take some outside photos of Reese and Tyson (they are the kids on the front page of my website & storefront where the little girl is hugging the little boy in the hat) it's one of my favorite photos... Anyway, it was cold, but it was a lot of fun... Tyson is 2 and kept stumbling everywhere we went, it was pretty funny! I also took some photos of their new baby brother....

Stacy and her Great Dane Motley came in for a photo session... Motley was pretty nervous, so we did a couple photos in studio and then headed outside to The Grove Arcade in Downtown Asheville and Motley met a new friend along the way!

Hey Everyone! Yes, I've finally started blogging!

Alisha Silver Photography opened for business in October 2008... 19 Wall Street in Downtown Asheville. I love the location and it couldn't have worked out more perfect...
